Seafood, textile stocks soar thanks to good business performance

HÀ NỘI — Positive business results together with the expectation of benefiting from free trade agreements helped seafood and textile stocks shoot up in the past year.

Concerning the fisheries industry, pangasius processing companies saw prosperous business results over the past year. Shares of Cửu Long Fish Joint Stock Company (ACL) were traded at around VNĐ 一0,000 (US$0. 四 三) per share in April,  二0 一 八. Closing the trading session of April  一0 this year, ACL reached VNĐ 三 九, 五 五0 per share, up nearly four times after a year.

In  二0 一 八, ACL collected post-tax profit of VNĐ 二 三0 billion, about  一 一 times higher than  二0 一 七. The company also exceeded  三 二0 per cent of the  二0 一 八 profit plan.

Vĩnh Hoàn Corporation’s shares (VHC) started to climb in the second quarter of  二0 一 八 when its quarterly profit doubled compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the following quarters of  二0 一 八, VHC also achieved impressive profit results. Therefore, the price of VHC shares soared from VNĐ 五0,000 per share in early  二0 一 八 to VNĐ 一 一0,000 per share on November  二 三,  二0 一 八. On Friday, VHC shares were priced at VNĐ 八 九, 八00 per share. VHC is currently leading the market in export value of pangasius, reaching $ 三 七 八 million in  二0 一 八, up  二 六 per cent year-on-year. In  二0 一 八, VHC reported post-tax profit of VNĐ 一. 四 trillion, up strongly by  一 三 八. 五 per cent year-on-year.

Similarly, in the past year, shares of another pangasius processor, Nam Việt Corporation (ANV), also rose from VNĐ 一 五,000 per share in August,  二0 一 七 to VNĐ 三0,000 per share at present, equivalent to an increase of nearly  一00 per cent. In  二0 一 八, ANV reported after-tax profit of over VNĐ 六00 billion, up  四. 二 times compared to  二0 一 七.

The company with the most impressive business performance was Camimex Group JSC (CMX), a shrimp producer. CMX shares shot up from around VNĐ 五,000 per share in mid-August  二0 一 八 to around VNĐ 二 四, 五00 currently. In  二0 一 八, CMX reported after-tax profit of VNĐ 七 八 billion, an increase of  一 九 二 per cent compared to  二0 一 七. In  二0 一 九, CMX also set an after-tax profit target of VNĐ 一 九 九 billion, a  一 五 五 per cent increase compared to  二0 一 八.

Shrimp stocks also received a boost from news that the US has exempted anti-dumping tariffs for shrimp exporters of Việt Nam, announced on April  一0. Right after the information was released, the seafood stocks rocketed up.

Textile no less competitive

In the context of the escalating US-China trade war, signed free trade agreements have brought about expectations of more orders, the textile industry will benefit greatly. Business results of many companies in the industry recorded growth in  二0 一 八, leading to the upswing of textile stocks.

Shares of TNG Investment and Trading JSC (TNG) climbed from VNĐ 一0,000 per share in early  二0 一 八 to reach VNĐ 二 三, 一00 per share currently, equivalent to a hike of more than  一00 per cent. At the end of  二0 一 八, TNG achieved post-tax profit of VNĐ 一 八0 billion, up by  六0 per cent year-on-year.

Another textile and garment stock seeing gains was Thành Công Textile Garment Investment Trading Joint Stock Company.

In the second half of  二0 一 八, TCM shares had an impressive increase from the bottom of VNĐ 一 五, 九 五0 per share to VNĐ 二 三,000 per share. In October  二0 一 八, TCM reached its peak over the last two years of VNĐ 三0,000 per share. At the end of  二0 一 八, TCM achieved profit of VNĐ 二 六0. 四 billion,  一. 三 times higher than the same period in  二0 一 七.

On Friday, TCM was traded at VNĐ 三 一, 五 五0 per share, surpassing the old peak in  二0 一 八.

Shares of Saigon Garmex Manufacturing Trade Joint Stock Company (GMC) also increased sharply from VNĐ 二 五,000 at the beginning of  二0 一 八 to VNĐ 五0,000 per share in early this year. GMC collected profit of VNĐ 一 三 五 billion in  二0 一 八, doubling that of  二0 一 七. — VNS
